A little about Dana Burgess, Principal

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest with my older sister, Kelly, and a rotating cast of family pets. My better half, Eric, and I have a wonderful blended family of six adult and teenage kids—including three who are proud products of the Northshore School District! We live in Kirkland and love spending our summers out on the lake, working in the yard, or relaxing with friends. My personal favorite, though, is reading in the sunshine—I just can't get enough of it!

I share this because I want you to know me as a whole person, not just a title, and I hope we get to know each other that way as the year goes on. Below are the promises I hold closest as I step into this role:

I am so excited to start a new adventure with you all at Crystal Springs Elementary!

In 2002, I moved to Seattle from Cleveland, OH where I completed my education from John Carroll University with a focus on English, education, and teaching reading. I started my career in the Edmonds School District as an English teacher. In Northshore, I was an assistant principal at Bothell High School for six years and more recently an assistant principal at Kenmore and Woodmoor Elementary schools who have similar programs to Crystal Springs like Title I, LAP, and support for all students who need free and reduced meals. I am passionate about mentoring teachers to grow in their profession and best support each and every one of our students.

I have two kids, a daughter and son, who will both be in high school in the fall as a freshman and sophomore. They remind me that the teaching we do in elementary school will carry kids far as we still navigate big problems and little problems, talk through when to find an adult for help, and remind each other that asking questions is more powerful than passing judgement.

I live with positivity—it feeds my soul to acknowledge the great work educators do and call out the goodness I see in our students every day. I firmly believe our collective success is linked together. I will find the good in situations, I appreciate laughter in my days, and I truly enjoy my work.
