Principal's Message

Dear Crystal Springs Roadrunner Families,

Soon “May the Fourth Be With You Day” will be here. While my memory can be a bit foggy the older I get, I do remember Star Wars being released in the movie theaters in May of 1977. Although a young kindergartner at the time, the memory of leaving school early to see this intergalactic movie is as crystal clear as the bright lights along the movie marque. I remember my whole-body bursting with energy and excitement. So much so it landed me a one-way trip to the principal’s office. As the car approached the Seattle Cinerama Theater my eyes grew as wide as the galaxy. The Cinerama was mesmerizing with its huge carnival-colored letters and its big spotlights dancing and shimmering in the sunlight. The line of Star Wars enthusiasts snaked around the building for what seemed like miles. The anticipation was overwhelming, but the wait was worth it!

Until recently, there had not been an event that mimicked such experience and emotion for me. Our recent welcoming of students back to campus for the 2022-23 school year, brought back the same exhilarating feelings like that day as a kindergartner. Words simply cannot describe the immense excitement, happiness, and pure joy I felt and continue to feel to see students each and every day. It is incredibly energizing for me to be able to walk thru classrooms or press my nose against the glass, wave and smile at students and staff. To have campus classrooms have character, personality and filled with children’s laughter is an energizing feeling each day. As we get closer to the end of this school year, we are planning for next. Once July rolls around, I know I will once again eagerly await to see students in our halls again. While the time between July and September will feel like forever, much like standing in line at the theater, the wait will definitely be worth it!

Thank you to all of our Crystal Springs families for continuing to walk alongside us.

In closing, this next week is Staff Appreciation Week. As you are aware, Crystal Springs is full of incredible staff members who make Crystal Springs an inclusive and welcoming place for all. I have been impressed by all the creative and amazing ways staff have continued to provide a quality learning experience for our students. I hope you take time to send a message to your teacher or another staff member and let them know you appreciate what they do. May the Fourth Be With You!

Warm regards,

Ali Airhart

District Provided Hotspots
Crystal Springs records indicate that some of families have a district hotspot checked out.

The District has informed us that NDS's Mobile Hotspot Program is ending Friday, June 30th. All checked-out hotspots will need to be returned to Crystal Springs (Ms. Aarthi at asathyanarayanan@nsd.org)) on or before Tuesday, June 20th. Plan to return your hotspot and charger to the office or have your student hand it to their teacher. All NSD hotspots will be deactivated on Friday, June 30th.

NSD is giving families lead time to make other internet service arrangements. Alternate internets plans are available through the Affordable Connectivity Program; this service will give you more robust service than a hotspot can offer. Additional information is provided under District News below

Help Your Child Succeed in School:

Build the Habit of Good Attendance Early
DID YOU KNOW?

  • Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
  • Missing 10% or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.
  • Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks.
  • Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
  • Absence and tardies can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.

Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

  • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
  • Keep your child healthy and make sure your child has the required shots.
  • Introduce your child to their teachers and classmates before school starts.
  • Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up.
    • Call on a family member, a neighbor or another parent.
  • Try to schedule medical appointments and extended trips when school isn't in session.
  • If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors and other parents for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
  • If your child must stay home due to illness, ask the teacher for resources and ideas to continue learning at home.

Important Message PTA Needs You!

We have a small PTA at Crystal Springs and have struggled to keep it going the past few years. We strive to support our students and teachers through offering enrichment programs, free family events, staff appreciation and more. Events like the Back to School social, BINGO Night and Mariners Night Out are so much fun, but take time and effort to plan. We need volunteers to step up so we can keep these fun family events and programs going next year. All PTA Board positions are open for 2023-2024 - President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Please consider volunteering for one of these positions so we can continue to support our kids, families, and school staff. Email crystal.springs.pta@gmail.com for more information.
